$1.30 buys a reusable menstrual pad so girls don't skip school when menstruating
We coordinate with local schools to teach about menstruation and give away reusable menstrual pads. This is important, as many girls never graduate high school because of a lack of access to period products. We educate them in a way that makes them feel empowered about their periods rather than ashamed.
We run a low-cost or free daycare to local families in Arusha, guaranteeing young children access to education, at least one meal per day, supervision and fun. Many parents in Arusha are not able to provide any level of supervision to children because of work. Some are underage mothers who need to drop their children off at daycare so they can attend class and graduate school. While it's currently running, our daycare could use many renovations. It still needs electricity and running water.
Our kitchen serves many purposes. First, it's a restaurant so we can fund our other projects. Second, it's an educational center. We host cooking, textile and financial management classes for locals here. These skills will assist them in finding employment. Our cooking classes are open to foreigners as well. Third, it's a community hangout spot. Here local youth come to learn dancing, yoga and anything our volunteers would like to teach.
Gracious Hope Daycare still needs electricity and plumbing.
$600 will supply both.
